The RetCam 3 is a wide-field digital imaging system designed primarily for ophthalmic use, especially in pediatric retina examinations (though it also supports anterior chamber/external imaging).
It provides capture of full-colour digital images (and video) of the retina and anterior segment, and is intended for documentation, longitudinal tracking, and remote review of ophthalmic findings.
It was manufactured by Clarity Medical Systems, Inc., based in Pleasanton, California.
Imaging capabilities
-
The system supports interchangeable lenses: for example 130°, 120°, 80°, 30° and a “Portrait” external imaging lens. These allow different fields of view and magnifications (e.g., 130° for premature infant retina, 120° for baby/young adult retina).
-
It can capture still photographs and videos of the retina/anterior chamber for documentation and review.
-
The images can be exported electronically (e.g., DICOM-compatible) and integrated into hospital/clinic electronic medical records (EMRs).
User interface & hardware design
-
The product boasts a “new ergonomic hand-piece” that is lighter and easier to manipulate.
-
19″ flat panel monitor (for viewing captured images) and a console with slide-out keyboard, left/right handed mouse, work surface, storage drawers for lenses/supplies.
-
Footswitch control for image capture during exam (in some versions).
-
Networking/IT-friendly: supports file import/export, image annotation (lines, notes, circle).
